Memorial Day is an American holiday that celebrates those military men and women who have lost their lives while serving our country. Most Americans like to celebrate Memorial Day with a picnic or cookout in honor of our fallen soldiers. Here’s my Memorial Day Picnic Menu!
Have a picnic in your backyard, or pack a picnic basket to take with you in the car to your favorite picnic location! I live near Washington, DC so many of the national memorials are within an hour of my home. Check out the memorials in your local area and be sure to pay your respects to our fallen soldiers.
For your picnic, remember to pack plates, plastic or metal silverware, napkins, beverage glasses, a sharp knife, serving utensils, and your fabulous food items! A nice picnic tablecloth is a festive addition. If you plan to enjoy your picnic while sitting on the ground, be sure to take a large heavy blanket. Ice packs will help keep your food cool.

Memorial Day Picnic
Remember to have a few appetizers starting with my Mom’s “Famous” Deviled Eggs Mom-Style.
Additionally, as a nice and easy bite-sized appetizer, you can make my Smoked Salmon Spread on Pumpernickel Squares.
My favorite summery Insalata Caprese — or Tomato Mozzarella Salad with Basil — is a hit with most everybody. Make a big batch and store in a container to take with you.
It’s not a picnic without my Creamy Coleslaw!
One of the most popular recipes on this site is my Dill Potato Salad with Greek Yogurt Dressing.
Make a few sandwiches to go with the salads! The Food Lover’s Favorite Chicken Salad Sandwich is a great start.
My Spinach and Mushroom Quesadillas are great hot or cold.
Take along my Super Sloppy Joes. Keep the filling warm in a thermal container, or serve cold. Take the buns along and assemble the Sloppy Joes just before serving.
It’s not the beginning of summer without my Honey Mustard Baked Beans! (Serve hot or cold.)
And for a healthier dessert, serve my Minty Fruit Salad. Of course you can take along some cookies or brownies, if you wish!
Offer white, red or sparkling wines, beer, soft drinks, and filtered water for your picnic guests.
Hope you have an enjoyable Memorial Day, and that the weather cooperates wherever you are!
