Lemon Rosemary Martini. This is a cocktail reminiscent of our days at Delaware House. One of our favorite restaurants, Catch 54 in Fenwick Island, Delaware, has THE best view. A couple of years ago, Catch 54 was rebuilt due to a fire. We miss the “old” Table 25 in the corner with floor-to-ceiling windows and spectacular views. Updated building codes required stronger hurricane-sturdy construction and therefore the floor to ceiling windows could not remain. Happily, the rebuilt restaurant eventually reopened yet without the exact same Table 25 and its unobstructed views.

Last summer kept me busy. My “salad” and herb garden grew quite nicely. My cilantro grew to about 10 inches and suddenly drooped and disappeared. Same with the dill. My baby lettuces are still growing nicely especially since the weather has cooled. My basil is done for the season. Thyme and chives are still going gangbusters. I harvested the pineapple sage last weekend for a macadamia nut pineapple sage pesto. My rosemary plant was extremely happy spending its summer outdoors. It’s now back inside and decorating my kitchen window. An on-going challenge with my closest neighbor is “what to do” with all of these herbs. She has a green thumb for tarragon and rosemary and is happy to share for which I am grateful.

Just muddle some fresh rosemary leaves and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add some ice cubes and lemon flavored vodka. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon or a sprig of rosemary. I like to use New Amsterdam Citron vodka in this martini. You can use your favorite lemon flavored vodka if you can’t find New Amsterdam.

And along with my wish to treat the non-drinkers as well, I’ve included a simple refresher drink that is non-alcoholic. It’s called the Lemon Rosemary Refresher.
